Oh man it is so cold in the house right now. It's warmer outside. How cruel is that? Pay $200 to heat your house but it'll be warmer outside anyway!!! WTF :( My thermometer inside says: 45 degrees. The
weather reports that Boulder Creek is experiencing temperatures of 62!! I hate clear nights, they are obviously full of crap.
I'm doing this thing, from
littledupont1. Leave me a casual comment of no particular significance, like a lyric to your favorite song.
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your lj with the answers to these questions.
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask others in your own post.
5. When others respond with a desultory comment, you will ask them five questions.
1) How did you end up baking (I'm incredibly curious)?Well, I've always loved to bake things from the time I was a little kid, and it just go to be more and more that way as time went on. I was kind of always afraid of the kitchen, and though I marginally enjoy cooking these days, I've always said that I'm so good at baking because I actually
care about the outcome--SWEETS!! GOODIES TREATS!! What could be better, right?! At the time I made the decision that that was what I wanted to
do, I was attending UCSC and not really enjoying it very much, and in all my free time I'd be in the kitchen baking cute little cookies and cakes and stuff. Then my wonderful boyfriend Jason said to me one night, 'Well maybe you should quit school and just bake stuff.' And at first he thought he'd offended me or something, but really I was just realizing that--hey, he was right. So that is when I started to pursue that avenue :D
2) What's your favorite terrible TV show or movie ever? Please nothing horror as I'll want to watch it and horror and I just don't mix, lol.I totally agree about the horror--although there is some truly awful horror out there, living out here in the woods & being left alone every single night with murderers in the area just...DOES NOT AGREE!! ANYWAY, I'm going to give you both a TV show AND a movie because there's enough terrible to go around! My favourite
terrible TV show HAS to be
Degrassi: The Next Generation. While there may be more truly terrible shows (like soap operas for instance--and man do I ever love those!),
Degrassi was the first real TV show that got me into crap TV shows (I'd only really ever watched bad MOVIES before then). Plus, it was kind of a present from my boyfriend--he turned on the TV late one night, saw this horrible acting, and thought, 'OMG Paige would LOVE this!!' and recorded it for us to laugh at. So
Degrassi continues to be in our lives almost every day, as it is on one of the networks we get and it's on right after I get home from work. There's just so many seasons of it now, and EVERYONE has slept with / gotten an STD from EVERYONE and they're all related and it's just got HORRIBLE acting, atrocious writing...but hey, it GOES there!! As for movie, this is probably gonna be harder for me...but I'm gonna go with
The Apple. Not only is it really bad in all the crucial departments--acting & writing, namely--but the plot is just so RIDICULOUS (it's about the horribly dystopian future of 1994...and it was released in 1980 I believe. Need I say more?)...and then it's a MUSICAL!!! It has SO many WTF moments and it's also got staying power--I've watched it many times and not gotten tired of it yet, and I doubt I could say the same thing about
Executive Decision or
ConAir.
3) What's your favorite genre to read and why? Including non-fiction subjects too (like, pop politics, bio, war history...)Oh man this is tough! It has to be a non-fiction subject (which is funny, because several years ago I was ALL fiction, NO!! nonfiction boo hiss, and now I've completely turned that around). Probably feminist stuff, history, and more specifically, history of religion or history of people in war. Also I loves me some science & sociology...as long as it's written for the laymen, because an actual science-doer I am not. I just enjoy reading about their discoveries and what they mean.
4) Why did you move to CA? It seems like such a gutsy, awesome moment, it's got to have a story :)Welllll, I actually moved here with my parents when I was 8 because my dad got a job. But the place we moved was so...not your idea of California (it could have been Any Hick Town, USA) that I'll answer it from when I DID move to a 'real' California type place, Santa Cruz (which
was much gutsier than moving with my parents :P)! I'd been to Santa Cruz on vacation several times, it was really nice & pretty, I liked the people here, it was just a kind of laid back hippie place where I figured there'd be lots of people like me. It was also a place that my boyfriend was PSYCHED to be moving to, having been stuck in Quincy his whole life, Santa Cruz seemed like a BIG CITY with lots of culture & things to do. So we got all excited about it for about a year, I applied to UCSC but told my parents that even if I wasn't accepted I was moving there anyway--I wasn't even going to TRY to get into any other school (they weren't worried because they knew I was the 'perfect' UCSC...applicant?). We were so motivated that we moved moved less than a month after we'd graduated from high school, mainly because I wanted to 'get out' of Quincy before hitting the 10 year mark, which was only a couple of weeks away. It really wasn't all that gutsy, as I was taking my boyfriend with me...I know I couldn't survive here without him; my paychecks wouldn't even cover
rent if it was just me. Despite the exorbitant prices and the occasional ridiculous person, I love it here and don't want to move :D I do miss my hometown now, though; I realize there isn't any prettier place anywhere (probably my bias BUT IT'S TRUE DAMMIT), and I've only been back...three times, for like two days each. :(
5) What is your favorite thing to bake and why?Cupcakes!!! Cupcakes cupcakes cupcakes. The 'why' has a couple parts--usually it's just my boyfriend & I who eat the stuff I bake at home; I mean, I do give away to my friends and parents, but we really eat the bulk of it. And as it's really not good to be eating tons of sugar all the time, cupcakes are nice because they're just one serving, it's easy to limit yourself, and you can have a 'piece' without the whole 'cake' getting dried out and yucky before you've finished it. Also, they're each their own little island, so if you're into decorating things to be cute, as I am, you have lots and lots of chances to make cute little dudes, but each one can also be different and so you can experiment with what designs you like.
AHH that was fun :D
