Yesterday was pretty cool. They sent me home from work at 11! I was like :DD Came home, Jason & I went for a walk up to our favourite spot. I have never lived anywhere where I could sit down in the sun in just a t-shirt and be perfectly warm & comfortable in the middle of January before. Kind of awesome (although a little part of me misses the snow...and then I remember having to dig my car out and hacking the ice away and then not having a working defroster).
We tried to watch Today You Die but only made it like 15 minutes before we both fell asleep. Although the parts we DID see were RIDICULOUS (Jason [delightedly]: This makes no sense!!), I guess we'll have to try again today.
I'm currently reading Intimate Voices from the First World War, which is just a collection of diaries & letters from soldiers (and a few from civilians or medics) in the middle of the fight. It's so sad and horrific, but the guys (and in two cases so far women) are just amazing writers, somehow. They're the same age as me in some cases, and the way they write--while surrounded by unimaginable carnage--is just brilliant. One guy even died in the middle of writing a sentence in his diary. It's also great because it covers all sides--Russians, French, Turks, Serbs, Germans, Austrians, Italians, Australians. And interspersed with their entries are little blurbs to let you know what exactly was going on in the war and stuff. It's awesome, but kind of depressing. I'd really recommend it to most people.
